Jerwood Library at the University of Cambridge

ジャーウッド図書館、ケンブリッジ大学
By Andrew Dunn (CC)
Andrew Dunn, the photographer, tells us that this is the new extension to the Jerwood Library, which was designed by the architects Freeland Rees Roberts and built in 1998. He explains that he took the photo with a 30s long exposure while the dying glow of twilight and a rising full moon color the sky. The trail of lights that we can see over the bridge come from the lamps of passing cyclists.

Jerwood Library is part of the University of Cambridge. When we think of the University of Cambridge, many of us think of history and beautiful old buildings. The university, founded in 1209 by scholars who left Oxford, is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world. The University of Cambridge has created a great body of knowledge which has been passed on to the world and has an impressive list of over 80 Nobel Laureates. While many of us do not recognize the name of William Farish, who was a tutor at the University of Cambridge, almost all of us have been influenced by his work. Farish developed the concept of quantitatively grading students' work in 1792. Still, as we can see in this picture, many years have passed since 1209 and the University of Cambridge has new buildings too.
