On drinking and colds
According to a 2007 article in the New York Times, drinking brandy, whiskey, or other alcoholic beverages does not fight colds. Alcoholic beverages may provide some relief, but will actually prolong the symptoms due to the dehydration that alcohol causes. Drinking red wine does appear to prevent colds though. Although some people will say that they need some cold medicine, this is not standard English.
