On prescription and non-prescription medication

The photographer's daughter is being treated for Lyme disease. You can see the bottle of medication for the second month of treatment and the prescription for the third month of treatment. America, like Japan, has two kinds of medicine: prescription and non-prescription. The prescription is the piece of paper that the doctor writes for you. You can see a prescription in the photo above. You then bring the prescription to the pharmacy and the pharmacy will fill your prescription. Non-prescription medicine is what you can buy without a prescription, which is also called over-the-counter medicine. Not all prescriptions are written on paper today; some are written on a computer and sent electronically.
