Fever is just a symptom
In English, most of us call a high temperature a fever, but some people also use the word pyrexia. Pyrexia comes from the Greek word pyretos, which means fire. The English word fever comes from the Latin word febris, which means fever. In English, fever was once known as ague. You will still see this word in older books. Fever is simply the medical sign that tells us that our internal body temperature is above normal. People once thought fever was a disease, but Carl Reinhold August Wunderlich, a German physician, pioneer psychiatrist, and medical professor, discovered that fever was simply a symptom.
