After Charles Darwin's 1859 publication of The Origin of Species
In 1859, Charles Darwin published On The Origin of Species, showing us the process of evolution where all life has evolved over time from common ancestors. Darwin called this natural selection. The scientific community and the general public accepted Darwin's ideas over the next decades, although religion still accounts for a significant number of doubters. Darwin's theory of natural selection created the foundation for modern evolutionary theory. Many consider him the father of modern biology as modern biology is based on just that, evolution through natural selection.
