This photo is of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Guard in Genoa, Italy. In Italian this is the Santuario di Nostra Signora della Guardia. The sanctuary is 804 meters above sea level on the summit of Mount Figogna. A chapel was first located at this site and was founded before the 13th century. Our Lady is said to have first appeared here on August 29 in either 1487 or 1490. The first sanctuary was built after that in 1528–1530. The basilica we can see today was built in 1857–1890, and the campanile was rebuilt after that in 1899. Pope John Paul II visited the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Guard in 1985.
