This macaw was photographed at the Mountain Bird Park & Nature Reserve in Copan, Honduras. Macaw Mountain Bird Park & Nature Reserve is a tropical bird reserve that cares for rescued and endangered birds. Macaws are New World parrots, native to Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Some macaws eat clay to protect themselves from poisonous seeds they eat. Chemicals in the clay are an antidote to the poison, letting the poison pass through the bird without harming it.
