The gardens you see in this photo are at the Chateau de Villandry. The chateau, built on the banks of the Loire, was completed in approximately 1536. By 1906, the Chateau de Villandry was in disrepair and about to be demolished. Dr. Joachim Carvallo purchased the Chateau de Villandry, saving it from destruction. Dr. Carvallo gave up his career to rebuild the chateau and restore its gardens.Today, the Chateau de Villandry is a World Heritage Site and is open to the public. The Carvallo family still owns the chateau, which is now one of the most visited chateaux in France.
